home home home
well...2 months, 25 days, and a couple hours. that's how long i was in Ellensburg, just shy of three months. my time in the e-burg has come to an abrupt end, and left me somewhat flusterred and realing.
getting let go (a gentle way of saying fired) was a little different than i thought it might be. not too far off from a cold breakup, which, if you've ever experienced, is an unpleasant event.
now most are wondering how i managed to get myself...terminated (a word the CIA and FBI should use less often) from a job that seemed like such a great fit. yes that's a good question, let me know if you ever find out the answer. i think the reasoning is less physical, like, i wasn't doing the kind of job they wanted me to; but rather, i think it may have been spiritual.
now, with regard to this physical/spiritual thing, i am either completely right, or completely wrong. you can decide.
i think that God wanted me in Ellens-friggin'-burg for a reason. if i had to guess what that reason was, i'd say to minister to the lives of a construction crew of roughly 25 men. very lost men. i never shared the gospel, i never prayed with anyone outloud, there were no deep theological conversations. but i think that God used me, and wanted me there, but only for a little less than three months. a year and nine months short of what i was planning to spend there.
i have been thinking a lot about the Eunech (sorry, spelled that wrong) in the book of Acts, the one that Phillip is sent to minister to. God tells Phil to hustle on over to such-and-such a place and meet this traveling politician. Phillip does this, and to cut to the chase, explains the gospel and baptises him, and all too quickly, and yes quite literally, disappears, whisked back to jerusalem.
Phillip is hauled away just when the church is starting to really get going back in ol' jerusalem. God takes phillip out of something that is just blossoming, and sticks him on some road for just the purpose of talking with this Ethiopian. yes, the guy was ethiopian. in fact, he was (according to the commentary i read) a rather high ranked ethiopian politician, as i mentioned before, and supposedly he was responsible for starting the church in ethiopia, the first in Africa, continuing on with Gods plan to spread the gospel from "jerusalem, samaria...and the ends of the earth.' africa, at this point, falling under the category of 'the ends of the earth.'
so this whole chapter has been of great encouragement to me in my recent experience. and although i don't understand why exactly it happened, i'm doing my best to carry on.
however....yes there is a however, i could be completely wrong, Ellensburg is still where God wants me to be and he's completely bummed that i lost favor with my boss over there who fired my ass and now God is wondering how he's ever going to fix all the chaos i've created, and why i couldn't work just a little bit harder and listen a little bit better and be just a little bit more perfect.
but then i remember satan deals with despair, and i send this thought right back to hell with him.
amen.
its good to be home. i've missed you all.
